Academic Programs

Foundation Studies Department

The Foundation Department (FD) provides non-credit intensive courses in English, Mathematics, and Information Technology to prepare students for success in their college major fields. All FD courses are assessed on a pass or no pass basis. Its levels and resources are internationally mapped, to the Global Scale of English (GSE) 30 to 50+, which aligns with Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) ranges: A2 through B1.

The program develops essential skills in reading, writing, listening comprehension, and speaking in English; mathematical and algebraic proficiency; and practical computing capabilities, all tailored to meet the academic demands of each student’s chosen field. Students admitted into Foundation I typically complete the program in two semesters, while those placed in Foundation II may finish in one semester. In addition to subject-specific competencies, all FD courses emphasize critical thinking, effective communication, professional attitudes, and employability skills, ensuring that graduates are fully equipped to progress into their major programs.
